An iconic piece from the archives of Jean Paul Gaultier’s experimental Junior Gaultier line, this structured bra top from the Fall/Winter 1987 collection boldly captures the designer’s avant-garde take on lingerie-as-outerwear.
Made in Italy from a 50% cotton, 50% nylon blend, the piece features padded cone cups with bold contrast topstitching, anticipating the iconic Madonna corsets that would soon define Gaultier’s legacy. The bra fastens at the front with a zipper and is framed by elasticized cotton side panels with navy and white stripes, allowing the garment to mold comfortably to the body. The striped fabric has a slight stretch, providing a flexible, adjustable fit.
Originally shown as part of a now-celebrated runway collection (as pictured), this piece is emblematic of Gaultier’s rebellious approach to fashion and his early experimentation with the female form — pre-dating the infamous cone bras designed for Madonna by just a few years.
