About the Item

This vintage 1940's black celanese satin robe, with a bright and vibrant pattern of blooming irises in shades of pink, blue, yellow, red and green, is the perfect piece to add to your loungewear collection. The V shaped neckline is framed by black Celanese satin notched lapels, which draw the eye to the cross-over cut of the robe, which fastens internally with matching ties. The elegant shoulder line, sets off the full length inset sleeves , which boast sewn cuff details. The elegant straight line cut off the robe, draws in along the side of the waistline with black rayon ribbon, which can be fastened in a decorative bow. Finished with a small side pocket along the right hand side of the hipline, this elegant and beautiful piece showcases the epitome of relaxation. Perfect for the enjoying at home, or alternatively worn as a dress Label: Handuc, Celanese Satin, British Made Measurements of the Robe Armpit to Armpit : up to 44 inches Shoulder to Hem: 39 inches Shoulder to end of sleeve: 23 inches Shoulder to Shoulder: 16.5 inches Hips: up to 44 inches Waist: 34 inches- this can be made smaller or bigger by fastening the ties at different lengths Size: UK 10-14 US 6-10 Closures: Internal fabric ties and external rayon ribbon ties. Condition: This housecoat is in good but not perfect vintage condition. There is a scattering of age marks throughout the robe, these are mainly apparent along some of the floral patterns, and do not draw attention as they blend in with the floral design. Light and gentle surface scratches to the Celanese satin throughout, with a few small pulls. It appears that there may have at one point been a matching belt to this robe, but this has been lost. The side black ribbon fastenings offer an alternative way to fasten the robe without the original belt. A small and sympathetic darn along the back right hand side, at waistline height. A few small scattered pin holes throughout, these are only apparent when the robe is being held up to daylight. Light and gentle colour variation to the black coloured base along the cuff and shoulder areas, as it appears slightly lighter. These minor details are not overly apparent when the robe is being worn, and only noticeable upon inspection. Please refer to the photographs, as they form part of the condition report.
