About the Item
Circa 1790
Provence
A chintz caraco from the Oberkampf Manufactory in Jouy-en-Josas. Woodblock printing on a ramoneur background with flowered pattern called Bonnes Herbes. High-waisted cut with long tubular sleeves ending in a mittened cuff. Bodice with oval neckline tightened by ties at the bust. Back with tilted line and V-shaped cut-out highlighted by a tiny pet-en-l'air (caracaca in Provençal). White cotton lining for the sleeves and grey peluché cloth forming an inner corset for pinning. No defects to be noted, the chintz having preserved its freshness and its glazed. Good condition.
Dimensions: Height 38 cm, shoulders 32 cm, chest 88 cm, sleeves 64 cm.
