Circa 1825-1830
France or Provence
Elegant fashion Caraco or dress top in French Printed cotton dating from the Romantic period. High waist, V-shaped back, drooping shoulders and angled Mutton's sleeves, finely pleated at the top of the arms. Cuffs with two mother-of-pearl buttons (the two buttons on the other cuff are missing). The very fashionable cut is fitted with darts at the front and fastened with passes with missing hooks. The cotton is a fine woodblock printed percale, with red, blue, yellow and green (blue and yellow superimposed) flowers. White cotton lining. Note the two ties on each sleeve for attaching pads to make the Mutton's puffier! Delicately cleaned piece. A few tiny yellowish spots that are hard to notice. Very good condition and fresh colours (yellow).
Dimensions: Equivalent size 34-35 France. Shoulders 40 cm, chest 79 cm, waist 63 cm, sleeves 65 cm.
