About the Item

Called a “sculptor of fabric,” American designer Jo Copeland created refined clothes that added a dose of American practicality to the highly sophisticated European fashion of postwar France. A superior example of her work, this skirt has the fullness of “New Look” Dior but requires no crinoline and pairs as beautifully with a white t-shirt as it does with a velvet jacket. Black ballerina-length skirt of heavyweight silk taffeta covered by seven tiers of scalloped lace from waist to hem; plain lace-covered waistband. Side metal zipper closure with two hooks and eyes at waistband tab and two snaps to join tiered lace overlay. Hemline circumference backed with 5” horsehair band to maintain fullness without foundations; unlined. fabric: heavyweight silk taffeta, Chantilly lace noteworthy: dry clean only alterations: none condition: excellent measurements: waist: 26” hips: free length: 34” including 1” waistband; lace hangs 1” below hemline sweep: 138” hem: 2 ½” label: Pattullo – Jo Copeland size: no size tag present; comparable to modern size extra small - small
