Linda Kinoshita was the first Japanese-American couturier, a superb designer who, after spending time in her youth in both California and Japan was forced, with her family, to a relocation camp during WWII, after release she worked in NYC with her mentor, the legendary couturier Charles James. In 1955 she opened her own couture house, located at 39 W. 56th St., where she produced exquisite couture garments in the best quality materials for the crème de la crème of NYC society, most notably Babe Paley. Her work is characterized by intricate construction techniques, interior boning in her bodices and innovative seam designs. Her work was featured in the 2022 exhibition "Asian Americans in New York Fashion: Design, Labor, Innovation" and is preserved in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute
