About the Item

I acquired this 2 piece vintage pants cowgirl outfit designed by Fay Ward from the estate of a woman who owned a ranch in California in the 1940's and 1950's. She had many collectible cowboy pieces including some from Nudie and very early collectible cowboy boots. This is a fabulous blue gabardine late 1940's or early 1950s ensemble with incredible detailed floral embroidery, rhinestones, and fringe. The top has mother of pearl snap buttons and the pants are high waisted. The top is in excellent condition but the pants need a few stitches in the hem on one leg and there is a 3 x 5" repair (nicely done) that I didn't even notice at first - it is L shaped and on the back of one leg. I was going to just sell the blouse, but because I know that Fay Ward vintage clothing is very collectible, I thought that the new owner of this outfit would appreciate having the pants as well! They are definitely wearable! The label reads: The Best in Western Garb - Fay Ward Co. Cowboy Tailors 306 West 48th Street, NYC. Fay Ward grew up in foster homes, but left at a young age to become a cowboy. He worked as a bronc-breaker, rodeo contestant, and cowboy clothing tailor and eventually discovered a passion and talent for writing and illustrating. Ward attended the Chicago Art Institute before writing and illustrating many "how to" and fiction books about cowboy life. In 1975 Fay Ward was honored as the man of the year by the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum and 3 years later that same Museum recognized him for his expertise on rodeo history.
