French Chic! From the French House of Vionnet, Paris. Purchased for a Hollywood Celebrity Fashionista and never used! NWT. Beautifully made (looks Couture) in ITALY. Cashmere and wool Kimono (short sleeve) coat with amazing tan/brown/grey Fox fur trim. The fur is so modern as it wraps arond the collar (front and back) all the way arond the front to the back hem in an irregular, natural shape. Super luxe! silk lining. The celebrity had a heather grey knit short sleeve chemise dress made to wear under the coat and purchased an Italian made heather grey beautifully cut trouser to have 2 different options. The extra 2 pieces are included! Trouser and dress size 8. We have never seen a more chic, stylish set than this since we started Palm Springs Fashionista. It is a total SHOWSTOPPER! Bio: Madeleine Vionnet (1876–1975) was a highly influential French couturier known as the "architect among dressmakers" for her revolutionary use of the bias cut to create fluid, elegant gowns that freed women from corsets. Her career began with apprenticeships in Paris and London, leading to her own fashion house in 1912, which became a leading force in fashion between the World Wars. Vionnet's work emphasized the natural female form and included Grecian-style dresses and intricate draping, influencing many designers and even appearing in costume design for shows like Downton Abbey. Career and Style Early Career: Vionnet started as a seamstress and lace maker at age 12. She moved to London to work for couturier Kate Reily before returning to Paris to work for the esteemed houses of Callot Soeurs and Doucet. Maison Vionnet: She opened her own fashion house in Paris in 1912, which she was forced to close at the start of World War I, only to reopen it after the war. She closed it in 1939 and retired in 1940. Bias Cut: Vionnet is most famous for popularizing the bias cut, a technique where fabric is cut on the diagonal to the grain, allowing it to cling to the body and move with it. This allowed her to create flowing, draped garments that celebrated the natural female form. Design Principles: Her work was anti-corset and championed comfort and elegance. She worked in three dimensions, creating garments by draping directly onto a mannequin rather than through flat sketches. Aesthetic: Her designs often featured elegant, Grecian-inspired silhouettes and were celebrated for their simplicity and sophisticated construction. Legacy and Influence Anti-Plagiarism Campaign: Vionnet was a pioneer in protecting designers' work. She founded an association to defend couture and, as a way to identify her original pieces, began stamping her unique fingerprint on the labels of her clothes. Modern Relevance: Vionnet's designs continue to be influential. Her technical mastery and unique aesthetic have inspired many contemporary designers, and her 1920s gowns have been referenced in modern productions like Downton Abbey. House Rebirth: The Vionnet brand was revived in 2007. Since then, it has been under various creative directors, continuing the legacy of the original house in Milan.
