About the Item
Circa 1970. Paris
Based on designs by Guy de Rougemont and Bernard Rancillac – Two iconic jumpers, limited edition from Galerie Axis in Saint Germain-des-Prés, dating from the early 1970s. 100% Woolmark jumpers, including a grey one with the Rougemont logo and a skyscraper design, and a black and pink one with the Cuban Che Guevara in the shadows and the Rancillac logo. High-waisted knitted jumpers with wide bands at the waist and cuffs. A few rare pulled threads, but never worn, very good condition. Equivalent to size 34-36 in France. Limited editions from the Galerie Axis in Saint-Germain-des-Près, 11 Rue Guenegaud Paris 6.
Guy du Temple de Rougemont, known as Guy de Rougemont, (1935-2021) was a modernist artist and member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. Multidisciplinary, he sought to break down the boundaries between the arts, working in everyday urban spaces, in squares and streets, while also creating objects and furniture. Among his famous works are his Cloud table (1970), designed for the decorator Henri Samuel, his Mise en couleurs d'un musée (Colouring a Museum, 1974), a temporary artistic intervention in which he covered the columns of the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris with coloured PVC strips, and his Environnement pour une autoroute (Environment for a Motorway), in which he installed urban sculptures along 30 km of the A4 motorway (1977).
Bernard Rancillac (1931–2021) was the leading representative of New Narrative Figuration, an artistic movement of the 1960s and 1970s closely related to Pop Art. A painter and sculptor, he had a keen eye for the world around him. His paintings were colourful and realistic, vibrant and full of references, including political ones.
