About the Item
Circa 1780. France
Precious wallet in black moiré silk faille, very finely embroidered in Beauvais stitch and dating from the Louis XVI period. Polychrome silk embroidery with naturalistic floral decoration and a chinoiserie scene in the centre. Pouch with two flaps and four interior compartments lined with pink silk moiré. Very slight small losses to the Chinese embroidery on a swing, and fraying at the central fold of the portfolio, the only flaws to note. Good colour and condition.
Dimensions: 18 cm x 12 cm when closed, 18 cm x 25 cm when open.
