Graceful yet off-balance, Penguin C captures the delicate moment of hesitation before a leap. With one foot raised and wings slightly extended, the painted porcelain penguin teeters on the edge of its icy platform, creating a sense of anticipation and movement. The careful sculpting of its form, combined with the subtle shading of its features, gives the piece a strong sense of character—both endearing and expressive.
Sanderman’s approach to minimalism allows the composition to shine through its refined simplicity. The contrast between the sleek black and white porcelain and the soft, sky-blue velvet background enhances the sense of depth, making the figure stand out as if it is truly perched in an arctic expanse. The warm orange accents around the head provide just the right amount of color variation, subtly drawing the eye to the penguin’s inquisitive expression.
A wonderful addition to any contemporary art collection, Penguin C is signed and ready to be displayed. This unique piece is currently available for purchase at Signet Contemporary Art in Chelsea and online.
Artist biography:
Painter/sculptor Henk Jan Sanderman (1975), born in the Netherlands, currently lives and works in a small town in the middle of Holland. In his studio he renders oil paintings, as well as casting sculptures in porcelain and bronze. The artist’s work defines itself as humorous realism, conveying objects and various subject matter in great detail against a black and white background. In the same hyper-realistic style as his paintings, Henk Jan creates sculptures and wall artwork imbued with impressive life-like accuracy.
His main focus is humorous hyperrealism painting where he sets his subject matter against a white or black background, allowing more space for interaction whilst demonstrating and emphasising intense attention to detail. The artist’s works have an endearing ambience, influenced with their light-hearted aspects. Current works demonstrative innovative merging of the canvas and sculpture, providing a contemporary body of installations.
His works has been featured at Palet magazine, Atelier magazine, Coda museum, Stadsmuseum Harderwijk and museum De Fundatie.
In 2014 Henk Jan participated in the television program "Sterren op het Doek" and created a portrait of Seth Gaaikema. In 2015, he was asked to return for the final season of "Sterren op het Doek", due to being one of the best artists of the past nine seasons.

Henk Jan Sanderman est un peintre néerlandais. Après 12 ans d'expérience en marketing dans un environnement commercial, Sanderman a changé de cap et a commencé à enseigner et à pratiquer la peinture à plein temps. Sa combinaison idéale d'interaction sociale et de création, un véritable maître peintre. Des portraits de Sanderman ont déjà été exposés dans les magazines Palet , Atelier, le musée Coda, le Stadsmuseum Harderwijk et le Museum De Fundatie. En 2014, Sanderman a participé à l'émission télévisée Sterren op het Doek et a réalisé un portrait de Seth Gaaikema. En 2015, il a été sollicité pour la dernière saison de Sterren op het Doek avec Omroep MAX renvoyant les meilleurs artistes des neuf dernières saisons. Sanderman a été autorisé à faire le portrait de Ria Bremer, qui a finalement choisi le portrait peint par Sanderman. Après l'expérience qu'il a acquise en réalisant des portraits dans le maître de la peinture très réaliste, il s'est concentré sur la réalisation d'une œuvre qui lui tient à cœur, l'œuvre humoristique. L'œuvre de Sanderman est un hyperréalisme humoristique, dans lequel il met en scène ses objets de manière très détaillée sur un fond noir et blanc.
