The Story:
In "Little Auspiciousness," Taiwanese artist Ser Uang Huang captures the pure, uncomplicated joy of childhood innocence. The sculpture portrays a figure standing tall, looking up at the sky with trust and delight. The artist draws directly from a short poem he wrote for this piece:
"Happy and innocent, Hiding blessings in small palms. Looking up at the world, As if saying to the clouds: Today must be happy too."
The figure holds its hands close, symbolically cradling "blessings" to share with the viewer. Ser Uang Huang employs his signature technique of "leaving the knife marks" on the body, creating a textured, rhythmic surface that contrasts with the smooth, expressive face. Carved from Taiwanese Camphor Wood, the work features natural color gradients that transition from deep earth tones to a warm, glowing amber, embodying the warmth of the blessings it holds.
