Américain, 1909-1970
Manfred Schwartz était un artiste américain d'origine polonaise dont les contributions à l'art du XXe siècle ont solidifié sa place dans le modernisme. Sa formation approfondie dans des institutions telles que la Sorbonne, l'Académie de la Grande Chaumière, l'Art Students League de New York et la National Academy of Design, ainsi que ses études auprès de personnalités telles que Charles Hawthorne, John Sloan et George Bridgman, ont façonné son parcours artistique. Schwartz a exposé aux côtés d'artistes tels que Maurice Vlaminck, Bernard Buffet, Edward Hopper et Andrew Wyeth. Francophile, ses fréquents voyages en France, notamment à Étretat sur la côte normande sur la suggestion d'Henri Matisse, ont profondément influencé son œuvre. C'est là qu'il affine son style pointilliste, capturant les jeux de lumière et de couleur. Schwartz était membre de la Federation of Modern Painters and Sculptors et de l'American Abstract Artists, et ses œuvres sont conservées dans des collections prestigieuses, notamment au MoMA, au Metropolitan Museum of Art, au Whitney Museum et à l'Art Institute of Chicago.à
