Vintage illuminated large rectangular wall mirror which is a striking example of German lighting and design from the late Mid Century Modern era, produced in the 1960s or 1970s. Mirrors of this style were manufactured by several reputable German companies, including Erco, which is known for producing high-quality illuminated mirrors of varying designs during this period. The original Erco manufacturer's label is present on the frame.
The standout feature is its sculptural frame, made from thick, textured clear acrylic (often referred to as Lucite or Plexiglass). The material is molded with an “ice” or “melted glass” surface pattern, giving the frame a rich, dimensional look that remains visually engaging even when not illuminated.
Designed to be backlit, the mirror houses eight small bulbs positioned behind the reflective panel inside a white metal frame with a perforated metal wall allowing the light to shine through and across the acrylic frame. When lit, the light diffuses through the chunky acrylic, producing a warm, ambient glow that enhances the crystalline texture of the frame and adds an elegant atmospheric effect to the room. A simple pull-cord switch is fitted which can be left permanently on if it's not required with the cord pulled inside the frame.
In good vintage condition. No chips or cracks to the lucite frame or scratches to the mirrored glass. There is some wear to the white lacquered metal frame where the lightbulbs are positioned which was likely to have been caused when the lightbulbs were hot. This issue does not detract from the piece because it's hidden behind the frame and LED lightbulbs do not emanate heat.
The mirror requires 8 x Edison E14 screw in lightbulbs. The mirror is in full working order. The wiring has been checked by a professional electrician.
Perfect for above a mantelpiece, hallway, bedroom, landing or in a bathroom to add an element of Hollywood Glamour.
