On the Design:
Emerging from the nomadic artistry of the Larkhabi region in Afghanistan, this piece is woven using the revered Soumak flatweave technique. This meticulous wrapping of the weft threads imparts a subtle, braided texture and sculptural depth, setting it apart from traditional kilims. The design features a dramatic, dark field of near-black and deep chocolate brown, creating a stark backdrop for the horizontal bands. These bands are filled with intricate geometric patterns, including diamond lattices and finely woven stripes, illuminated by pops of red, yellow, pink, and emerald. A highly decorative element is the inclusion of multi-colored tassels along the selvage, which frame the piece with an extra layer of nomadic charm and craftsmanship.
