On the Design:
Emerging from the nomadic artistry of the Larkhabi region in Afghanistan, this piece is woven using the revered Soumak flatweave technique. This meticulous wrapping of the weft threads imparts a subtle, braided texture and sculptural depth, setting it apart from traditional kilims. The design is highly distinct, centered by a striking, large-scale rectangular border in deep terracotta and muted reds, framing the central field. Within this frame, horizontal bands of diamond motifs flow across a nuanced ground of dusty lilac and soft brown. Jewel-toned elements in dusty blue, forest green, and pale orange illuminate the complex lattices. The organic, undulating stripe edges authenticate its tribal heritage. This Soumak Kilim is a woven narrative of cultural presence and timeless artistry, perfect for defining a sophisticated space.
