On the Design:
Emerging from the nomadic artistry of the Larkhabi region in Afghanistan, this piece is woven using the revered Soumak flatweave technique. This meticulous wrapping of the weft threads imparts a subtle, braided texture and sculptural depth, setting it apart from traditional kilims. The design is characterized by its dramatic elongation and a deep, complex field of chocolate brown and earthy reds. Horizontal bands are densely filled with a varied repertoire of nomadic motifs, including vibrant diamond chains and intricate stepped medallions. Notable accents of rich purple, bright gold, ruby red, and turquoise blue illuminate the patterns. The organic, undulating stripe edges authenticate its tribal heritage.
