On the Design:
Emerging from the nomadic artistry of the Larkhabi region in Afghanistan, this piece is woven using the revered Soumak flatweave technique. This meticulous wrapping of the weft threads imparts a subtle, braided texture and sculptural depth, setting it apart from traditional kilims. The design is characterized by its dramatic, deep chocolate brown field, which creates a rich, absorbing backdrop for the patterned bands. These bands are filled with a rhythmic, alternating sequence of geometric motifs, including open diamonds, stylized 'X' shapes, and fine lattice work, illuminated by pops of ruby red, turquoise blue, and vibrant pink.
