This compelling Antique Kazak Rug is a robust and visually powerful tribal textile from the South Caucasus, dating to circa 1880. Measuring 117 x 219 cm (approx. 3'10" x 7'2"), its versatile accent size and energetic, highly geometric design make it a commanding focal point for any collector or sophisticated interior. The central field features a rich, luminous madder red ground, dominated by a vertical column of four large, distinct geometric diamond (lozenge) medallions. These monumental guls are rendered in striking, multi-colored layers—featuring blocks of ivory, deep navy blue, teal, and gold—and are defined by prominent, angular latch-hook extensions. The dense packing of the medallions within the field and the strong symmetry are hallmarks of the Kazak style. The composition is framed by an exceptionally wide and elaborate border system. The main border, set against a crisp cream/ivory ground, showcases repeating, colorful geometric devices and stylized floral guls, creating a strong contrast with the intense red central field.
