This magnificent Antique Shirvan Runner Rug is a finely woven and geometrically intricate tribal textile from the East Caucasus, dating to the late 19th century. Measuring 150 x 277 cm (approx. 4'11" x 9'1"), its elongated format and dramatically complex design make it a commanding art piece for any gallery, hallway, or collector's space.
The central field features a deep indigo/navy blue ground, which is dominated by a vertical column of large, interconnected geometric diamond (lozenge) medallions. These monumental guls are rendered with the fine detail characteristic of Shirvan weaving, featuring multiple inner outlines, stepped contours, and intricate latch-hook and star-shaped geometric filler motifs in contrasting colors of madder red, ivory, blue, and gold. The field is densely populated with small tribal symbols and abstract figures, enhancing the overall textural complexity.
