Williamsburg Townhouse
From "Made to Measure" - When Will and Kerstin bought a newly constructed townhouse in Brooklyn s coolest neighborhood, they wanted to create an oasis for their family. Their primary focus was on the decor. Will approached the main living space as if it were a loft, installing a partial wall of bleached anigre that keeps the kitchen and living room distinct while allowing light to pass through the two spaces. He designed a freestanding, open bronze bookcase to divide the living and dining areas and, as he often does in public projects, used spunky overhead fixtures to define spaces: an oversized trapezoidal linen light in the living room and a knockout 1970s brass fixture in the dining area over a Saarinen table that he customized, painting the base black and adding a gray, cerused-oak top. The master bedroom is a tone poem in white, punctuated by a magnificent textured red painting by the contemporary Mexican artist Bosco Sodi. With a streamlined upholstered bed, linen curtains, and a shaggy merino wool rug, it s a restorative cocoon that allows Will and Kerstin to relax and clear their minds at the end of a typically hectic day.
