STEVE CHASE:
Known for their contemporary elegance and comfort, Steve Chase’s residential interiors embodied the casual yet opulent style of California’s affluent. Natural elements such as wood, granite and leather prevailed in his sensuous designs, often enhanced by subtle lighting. Preferring to work closely with each project’s architect, Chase deftly blended all the elements of design to create a whole greater than the sum of its parts.
Realizing his talents earlier than most, Chase began shaping his career and his distinctive style at age seventeen when he joined the design firm of La Tienda in Los Angeles. A 14-year affiliation with Arthur Elrod Associates followed, ending in 1980 with the founding of his namesake firm, Steve Chase Associates. With a staff of more than 20 based in Rancho Mirage, California, Chase’s projects extended beyond his signature residential work to include aircraft, yachts and homes in such far-off lands as Singapore and Germany. In addition, Chase designed the Bob Hope Cultural Center, the Behring Auto Museum and several West Coast...

WOW! This is one of the rarest finds of 2023. A 70 year old Rembrandt "atomic blender" styled modernist lamp complete with the "atomic blender" in gold and a pink, black and white paint splatter finish!
You simply can't find these wonderful Rembrandt lamps anymore! Rembrandt billed their designs as "Rembrandt Lamps- Masterpieces" and when the modern movement arrived, they were there in a big way with lamps that were simply works of modern art!
Rembrandt lamps were so futuristic they were used in episodes of Outer Limits and The Twilight Zone. Set designers that needed props found Rembrandt's incredible modernist lamps just the ticket!

Glen Lukens Signed Early Midcentury Glazed California Pottery Weed Pot Vase

A very rare early work featuring a dark chocolate brown glaze by master Mid-Century Modern ceramist/potter Glen Lukens whose work has become quite collectible and relatively scarce and difficult to find.
The work is signed and dated (1924) by Lukens on the underside (we have only seen one other piece dated this early and that piece is in the Forrest Merrill Collection).
Lukens was the founder of the University of Southern California (USC) Architectural School’s Ceramics Department where he helped establish and promote clay pottery as a universally acceptable art form. The current popularity of Studio Pottery and ceramics is widely accepted to have started with Lukens who is oft credited with being one of the first artists to raise the stature of Mid-Century Modern Studio Pottery within the art world.
Lukens is famed for his experiments with various glazes and glazing techniques. His influence and glazes can be clearly seen in the works of Otto and Gertrud Natzler, Beatrice Wood, James Lovera, etc. He was also known for combining bright, colorful textile glazes (using natural, organic materials and elements he found in the Mojave Desert, Palm Springs, and Death Valley to make what he referred to as "California Colors") with the rough and raw clay surfaces of his often rudimentary forms and vessels.
Lukens currently has an award in his name (Glen Lukens Award) at the University of Southern California's School of fine Arts.
A very rare, unique, and truly special work This piece would be a tremendous stand-out addition to any collectors of Lukens' work or Mid-Century Modern ceramics collection or eye-catching accent piece in about any setting, modern or otherwise. A must-have.

At the time of the New York World's Fair of 1939, designers architects and engineers were all inspired to bring about and summon "The Future!" This extremely rare lamp is a great example of the designs, ideas and aesthetic of this momentous period!
Here an articulating brass banded drum shade swivels on a great expansive brass arch! Arches added a sense of drama and importance to an object and were used very successfully in this time period to bring both formality and dynamism to furnishings!
This drum shade beams light where desired and it is covered with an enamel pattern designed to look like leather. This element is very rare and is one of the first industrial age examples of decorating metals and plastics with "natural" patterns. This would become fairly common place decades later as the "wood" trim on cars was decorative plastic and before that, contact paper was introduced to a design conscious public.
At this time, several extremely high end desk lamp designs featured leather wrappings, particularly those coming out of Europe, who were still employing more handmade furnishings. So this design feature was not just a random whim, but an effort to convey "old world" imagery to a very industrialized product.
