About the Item

6th–9thC Chinese Bronze Bodhisattva of Compassion, Tang Dynasty — Fine and Expressive Early Casting. This elegant 6th–9th century Chinese bronze Bodhisattva of Compassion, dating to the Tang dynasty, is a beautifully refined example distinguished by its superb facial expression and the finesse of its sculpting and casting. The figure displays a level of detail and sensitivity found only in higher-quality early bronzes. The Bodhisattva’s face is gentle and expressive, radiating compassion and inner calm. The ribbons and robes are rendered with remarkable complexity—flowing, layered, and carefully articulated—demonstrating the skillful hand of an accomplished Tang-period artisan. Such intricacy in the drapery is a hallmark of more sophisticated early Buddhist metalwork. The bronze measures 4.5 inches tall, and reaches 5.5 inches in height on its custom stand. Dimensions: 1.75 inches wide and 0.6 inches deep. A beautiful and elegant early Chinese bronze, notable for its expressive face, graceful proportions, and fine craftsmanship—an excellent example from a period celebrated for its artistic and spiritual richness.
