About the Item

Charming traditional antique Thai rice basket. Woven handmade construction with lid. Original hand carved wooden base. Body and lid are made from handwoven split bamboo. Then covered with coconut husk to be made air tight. Burnt bamboo cane woven to keep everything together. Lid has an adjustable rope to hold it on. Rope likely not original. Traditionally used in South East Asia in homes and stores to store rice in a cool air tight vessel. Great for storing any dry goods. Fully re lacquered to preserve and highlight the beautiful textures and patina to the body of the piece. Would make a beautiful decor addition to any home.
