About the Item
Woven with precious scale and delicate artistry, this small flower basket from the early 20th century is a lovely example of traditional Chinese basketry. The basket is woven of thin strips of lacquered bamboo, shaped with a shallow, round body and a high, arched handle. An array of weave patterns creates a rich patchwork of textures, from the simple twill of the interior to the lobed, melon-like siding to the braided border that finishes the rim.
