About the Item

I would like to introduce some earthenware with a very interesting shape. This is an old excavated earthenware from Japan, called "Yayoi" or "Hajiki". This item is from before the 9th century, and is a type of earthenware that spread throughout Japan when rice and other crops began to be cultivated. This is a method called open-air firing, where a large hole is dug in the ground, and shaped jars and vessels are placed in it, and then fired over a fire using straw. It is not fired in a kiln, so the firing temperature is around 700 to 800 degrees. As a result, the finished product is reddish brown all over, with scorches caused by the force of the fire adhering like a pattern. Various types of wood for daily use are burned, some are made as offerings during magical rituals, and some are offered as grave goods at the ruins of powerful people. And this is a tool made as a daily tool (or grave goods). As I mentioned earlier, when rice cultivation began, tools for steaming rice were necessary. This is a steamer for steaming rice. Its proper name is "koshiki." It is steamed in the manner shown in the attached photo. It is not possible to determine whether this was actually used or used as a burial item, but it is in relatively good condition as an excavation. There are a few chips on the top and bottom, but other than that there are no major cracks and there are no problems. It has a unique shape and is beautiful without any waste. I guess it was probably made around the 7th to 8th century. I would like people to know about the beautiful earthenware that was born in an era before the Japanese culture that many people know flourished. Since it is earthenware, it is not very strong. However, please rest assured that it will be securely packed and shipped. Also, please handle it with care when displaying it.
