About the Item

A Japanese antique footed wooden bowl dating from the 1910s–1930s. The vessel is stained in a deep black finish, giving it a quiet, dignified presence. It was likely made as a kaibaoke (a traditional feeding tub), though its clean condition and absence of wear suggest that it remained unused—effectively a deadstock piece preserved over time. Hand-carved tool marks can be seen along the interior, revealing the rhythm and intention of the maker’s hands. Cracks appear in several places, a natural occurrence in solid wood as it ages. Rather than diminishing its appeal, these features lend the bowl an expressive, organic beauty rooted in material and time. A sculptural, textural object that resonates softly within both modern and traditional interiors. Additional antique furniture and decorative objects sourced from across Japan are also available upon request.
