About the Item

This is the warhead part (shell) of an old Japanese shell. Functional parts such as the internal explosive and fuse have already been lost, and we present this as a safe relic that has been completely hollowed out. Based on its texture and shape, it is assumed that it was manufactured in the early Showa period (1930s-1940s). It is believed to have once been used for military purposes, but now it is a single sculptural object that stands quietly and timelessly. A shell is the outer shell of a shell used in artillery and mortars, i.e., a tubular iron part that forms part of the main body. Inside the shell is an explosive charge, which is fired together with a fuse, but this product is a “shell” without the contents. Therefore, there is no practical danger whatsoever. Such an item is not only a piece of metal, but also a valuable document that quietly tells the traces of the history of war. The rugged silhouette, heavy texture, and the rusted look that has resulted from the long passage of time are a crystallization of beauty born of chance. The rusty expanse is like an abstract painting created by nature, and even without any modification, it gives the impression of a completed formative beauty. Used as a vase or an objet d'art, it can add a quiet strength to your interior design. The texture of this man-made object that seems to be returning to nature - this is where the spirit of “wabi-sabi” dwells.
