About the Item

The celadon jar presents a balanced form with a serene bluish-grey glaze. Its shoulders taper gently toward the base, creating a composed silhouette. A modeled mythical beast is applied to the neck, while a small sculpted bird sits atop the lid. The creature’s body is rendered with restrained yet elegant modeling, showing tension along the neck and hind legs with raised ears and horn-like protrusions. The surface is evenly covered with a transparent bluish glaze, densely crackled with fine natural crazing throughout. Subtle discoloration along the glassy surface indicates long-term natural oxidation and absorption of the underlying clay over time. The unglazed foot reveals a reddish ring. The bird finial on the lid shows reddish oxidation on the thinner-glazed areas, sharing the same clay body and firing characteristics. The thickness, crackles, and fine greyish body all correspond to the physical properties of authentic Northern celadon from the late 10th to 12th century.
