About the Item
Woven with precious scale and delicate artistry, this petite bamboo basket from the early 20th century is a beautiful example of traditional Chinese basketry. Hand-crafted in southwest China, the small, portable basket would have been strung at the waist like an external pocket and used to hold foraged goods while traversing long distances. A work of art in itself, the basket is woven of thin strips of smoked bamboo, shaped with a flattened body, narrowed neck and wide, flared rim.
