About the Item

A Chinese Foo Dog Ginger red-copper glazed jar circa 1900 is ready for installation. The jar itself has a distinctive shape with ribbed or fluted detailing on its surface. It is ceramic and is glazed in a rich maroon or deep red color. The ribbing adds texture and visual interest to the jar's design. The lid of the jar features a foo dog, also known as a "Chinese guardian lion" or "lion of Buddha." There is no hallmark on this piece. These lion-like creatures are prevalent in Chinese mythology and are often depicted as protectors of sacred spaces, such as temples and imperial palaces. The foo dog on the lid of the jar is typically crafted in a stylized manner, that showcases intricate detailing and symbolic significance. This piece offers a design bonus with its deep rich color and interesting shape and texture. It shows signs of age, but it presents beautifully. The "guardians" in the form of Foo dogs bring a feeling of importance to this gorgeous piece and are believed to possess protective and auspicious qualities. We love the idea that they guard against negative energies and bring good fortune. This piece will be double-boxed and shipped via white-glove, in-Home delivery, for increased protection.
