About the Item

This is a very good quality, highly decorative Chinese export Large porcelain Vase, finely hand decorated in the Imperial Canton, Rose medallion figural design, which we date to the mid 19th century, Qing dynasty, circa 1850. This is a large vase over 16 inches high. ( ~42cm) The vase has a baluster shape with a flared rim and is embellished with gold gilded dragons or salamanders at the shoulder with gold Foo Dog side handles. This is a well potted heavy vase indicative of the earlier Canton pieces, weighing about 3.5 Kg unpacked. It is hand-painted in the Canton or Chinese export, rose medallion decoration with two sets of four panels consisting of groups of Chinese people in a house setting alternating with groups of flowers , birds and butterflies. It also has panels to the neck with people and floral borders to the shoulder and rim. The colours are bold and bright with the "orange peel" texture on the painting of the floor areas within the people panels , being another sign of quality. Imperial Canton pieces also have more and thicker gold embelishment Overall a very beautiful example of an Imperial Canton Large Vase in great condition.

Chinese Ming Small Vase porcelain blue and white Wanli /Transitional, Ca 1625-40
By The Hatcher Collection
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a hand painted 17th century, late Ming dynasty, porcelain Jar or small Vase hand painted in a blue and white figural scene, which we attribute to the Wanli / transitional period, circa 1625 - 1640. This piece may be from the Hatcher shipwreck cargo but we have no certificate or paperwork to support this. Please note, since the Hatcher collection was auctioned by Christies in 1984/1985 ( 40 years ago) many pieces have now lost their original auction paperwork and certification. The Jar/ Vase is fairly thickly potted with a very white glaze to the porcelain. It is decorated with a man and a boy stood against a tree with rocks, mountains and flying bats in the background all hand painted in various shades of a clear under-glaze cobalt blue. The irregular shaped head, bald high forehead, and straight pencilled beard with moustache support this date and period. Overall a good Chinese Ming period porcelain small vase. Notes: The Hatcher Cargo...
