About the Item
Description
A Chinese famille rose reticulated plate, Qianlong period (1736-1795). The dish is of moulded form with openwork rim, the central roundel decorated in overglaze enamels with sprays of flowers and foliage against a moulded basket pattern, the rim with small quatrefoil flowerheads corresponding with the reticulated basket design.
What makes this a particularly special dish, is that it's an Armorial in disguise, and a rare one at that, since the arms are hidden in the design. See pictures please. It was a replacement service modified in Europe after the original was lost at sea on its way from China. The small blue flower that is over enameled is the arms of Paul-Christophe-Céleste de Robien, Marquis de Robien.
The fairly exact date for these is 1765.
Some nice provenance at the back also with Marchant and Helen Espir.
