A Celadon and Blue Porcelain ‘Phoenix’ Vase or Ginger Jar
China, Qing Dynasty, 19th century
With ebonised carved stand and lid
28 cm. / 11 ins high (overall 33 cm. / 13 ins), 20 cm. diameter
This lovely antique Chinese vase, possibly used as a ginger jar, has a plain ovoid body with a pale green translucent celadon ground glaze. It is traditionally decorated on one side in cobalt blue with a phoenix perched on a stand, surrounded by peony stalks and flowers.
It is presented on a well-carved ebonised wood stand with a matching lid.
