About the Item

This is a good Chinese hardwood foo dog, sometimes called a temple lion that we date to the late Qing period, circa 1900. The piece is hand carved as a fierce dog or lion sat on a rectangular plinth, with a brocade ball under its paw. The base has the carvers or makers marks inscribed on it. The carving has developed a very good depth of colour from polishing age and this is quite a heavy piece weighing about 0.6 Kg unpacked

These are a very good pair of antique Ming style Chinese foo or lion dog sculptures, sometimes called temple lions, made of bronze, with good detail, which we date to the late Qing or early Republic period of the 20th Century, Circa 1920. These pieces are well cast with very good detail, showing wear and a good natural patination to the high points as expected from use and polishing over a long period, the lustrous copper bronze metal below. The places on the castings where one would not normally polish ( eg. the underside, the back and neck area) are fairly rough to the touch in keeping with their age These are a substantial pair of bronzes, weighing over 900gm unpacked These lovely pair of antique Chinese foo dogs...

These are a very good PAIR of antique Chinese foo or lion dog sculptures, sometimes called temple lions, made of a brass-bronze metal alloy, with excellent detail, dating to the early 19th century, Qing period or possibly earlier back to the 18th century. They are a male and female pair, the male with the slightly larger head. These pieces are very well cast with good detail and wear, showing a very good depth of colour.
