About the Item
An exceptional antique pair of Chinese famille rose enameled porcelain archaistic “Cong” form vases, on fitted wood stands.
The archaistic, squared "Cong" form harkens back to earlier examples in bronze dating back thousands of years to the neolithic era.
This pair of porcelain vases are raised on circular foot rings with squared bodies featuring exquisitely moulded elephant mask and faux loose ring handles, with one to either side of each vase. Each side panel is delightfully enameled with scenes of roosters in floral landscapes, along with birds perched on prunus trees amongst other decorative motifs.
The pair rest on nicely finished fitted wood stands.
Qing Dynasty, 19th C.
Condition: Please see detail photos. Very slight surface scratches underfoot with insignificant and minor kiln flaws to mouth rim, original to firing. Additionally there is expected, gentle wear to the enameled decoration commensurate with age, display and very gentle handling.
Overall the pair present exceptionally well.
