About the Item

This charming rectangular porcelain soap box with lid is a fine example of Chinese Famille Verte ware from the Qing Dynasty, dating to the 19th century. The hand-painted decoration features a serene garden scene with a reclining lady reading amidst blooming chrysanthemums and flowering trees, rendered in soft enamels typical of the Famille Verte palette. The sides are delicately inscribed with Chinese calligraphy, adding cultural depth and visual interest to the piece. The lidded box stands on four short feet and has an interior with six rounded knobs likely designed to elevate the soap. The handle on the lid is sculpted in a cross-form with small applied gilt details. The glaze is glossy and smooth, with minor age-related wear, enhancing its authentic patina. This piece was likely intended as a scholar's object or for the boudoir, blending utility with decorative artistry. A fine collectible for lovers of Chinese export porcelain or 19th-century Qing ceramics.
