About the Item

Excited and really happy to share this box. Incense or Cricket Box In the pictures you will see a very nice Cricket box / Incense box with Poem. Typical Literati taste for Scholars that also was popular in Japan. It has a very nice and unusual shape and design. The painting style is very typical for this period. Lovely with a Poem. It is Jingdezhen made for the Japanese market. The storage box and covering pieces are specifically made for the pieces and add to beauty of the set in our opinion. The midday sky is clear, the breeze mild, Willow blossoms drift along the river ahead. The poet no longer knows the shape of ten long years, As cloud-waves swirl like smoke in dreams. Two sit at Go, forgetting the way home, Tea beneath the pines carries a distant Zen. The setting sun lights up a stream and a lonely boat, Lingering chill remains, as the wine begins to warm. There is a hole in the top of the box that seems to have been made later, but interestingly In the 1977 Kyoto Shoin book there is a similar box with identical hole. There it was described as an Incense container. But my seller suggested a Cricket Box. Country of origin: China Period: Early 17th century Dimensions: 9.5x6x6CM Please enjoy!
