About the Item

To make a great collection one wants pieces which look great together, but are not too "matchy matchy" These two pairs of Chinese porcelains are just that. Both are painted with cobalt blue and at first glance they seem quite different, but the contrast between light and dark, and big and small make these two pairs just right to begin or extend any collection of Chinese porcelains. Two pairs of beautiful Chinese porcelains: a pair of ginger jars and a pair of small vases. The tall pair of vases decorated with court ladies (the third pair of vases in the image) is now sold. 1) A pair of delightful blue and white Qing dynasty covered vases decorated with an all over design of Tibetan flowers and scrolling vines painted in deep cobalt blue. The decoration is harmonious with the shape of the well proportioned vases. The vases are small measuring 9 inches tall. The neck and cover of each vase is decorated with delicate sprigs of flowers. The covers are topped by traditional foo dog finials. Dimensions: 9 inches tall x 3.5 inches at the widest point Condition: Excellent Price: $3800 2) A pair of blue and white ginger jars A lovely pair of Chinese blue and white porcelain lidded ginger jars was made in the mid-19th century. They have the traditional ginger jar shape. The blue and white decoration features panels showing traditional objects of good luck for the owner of the jars. The panels are separated by a deep blue border decorated with white hawthorne blossoms. The base of each jar with four character Chinese marks in underglaze blue.
