About the Item
This vase is a traditional porcelain tulipiere from Jingdezhen, a town long distinguished by imperial patronage. In the 17th century tulipiere were used to grow tulip bulbs indoors and were common pieces of decorative art in the homes of European elites. Large floor-standing pyramid-shaped tulipiere like this one are particularly ornate and can hold a variety of blooms to create a luscious display of many different varieties of flowers. Our favorites include tulips of course, as well as peonies, ranunculus, iris, anemone, and carnations.

Almost perfectly Identical piece from Vietnamese Royal Family in United States provenance have been sold at other auction in California. This stunning porcelain lidded vase is elaborately decorated in a vivid blue underglaze with an ornate scene of concubines in a flower garden. The bottom of the vase bears a conch marking in underglazed blue, is a symbol of royalty, dignity and high rank, the 'Sacred Lungs of Buddha' and spiritual authority.
