About the Item
Ming Dynasty porcelain peacocks figural vase with Xuan-De Mark.
This is an early Chinese red under-glazed porcelain vase which is in the figural shape of two peacocks. This vase is guaranteed to be from the Ming Dynasty and on the side is the Xuan-De Mark. This vase has a red under-glazed design. It is in original unrestored condition. There are some imperfections and surface wear to the glaze as well as an old, stable hairline that travels across the bottom. The clay
pigment are all in line with the characteristics of the 15th century Xuan-De period.
The Ming Dynasty
This was a Chinese imperial dynasty, ruled from 1368 to 1644, following the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty, and was the last dynasty ruled by the Han people. It was a period of significant cultural and economic expansion, marked by achievements in art, literature, and porcelain, and saw the construction of the Forbidden City in Beijing. The Ming Dynasty was founded by Zhu Yuanzhang, a commoner who led a rebellion against the Yuan dynasty. Zhu Yuanzhang established Nanjing as the first capital, but later the capital was moved to Beijing during the reign of the Yongle Emperor. The Ming dynasty lasted for almost 300 years, with 17 emperors ruling during that time. The Ming dynasty was succeeded by the Qing dynasty in 1644.
XuanDe Emperor
He was born in 1399 as Zhu Zhanji, and was the eldest son of the Hongxi Emperor and Empress Zhang, Xuanzong ascended to the throne on February 8, 1426 with reign title of Xuande. He successfully suppressed an early internal rebellion by an uncle after which he kept grip on power till his death in 1435. The rebel leader, his uncle Zhu Gaoxu, was strong as an ox and could lift the heavy bronze vessel under which he was being roasted to death for his betrayal. The Emperor fought natural calamities, safeguarded the borders and patronized the arts. Supported by his mother, Empress Dowager Zhang, his 10 years of rule brought peace and prosperity to the empire.
