About the Item

This lidded container of earthenware features a green glaze, known as 'Shiwan Ware' from China's Shiwanzhen district near Guangdong. It was originally used as a tea dispenser hence the small hole on its lower front side. The engraved characters on the front side directly translate to "clear tea" and are placed within an engraved frame. The jar green glaze fluctuates under various lighting conditions. A dispensing jar such as this one is rare and far less abundant than other more abundant Shiwan ware jars such as medicine jars and fermentation jars. A unique piece certain to invoke conversation.
