About the Item

An lovely Chinese cobalt glazed and gilt decorated porcelain pear shaped vase, yuhuchunping, late Qing Dynasty, circa 1900, China. The elegant vase of typical yuhuchunping (pear shaped) form, with a bulbous body set on a short recessed ring foot, and tapering up to a short, narrower neck with a a slightly everted mouth. The yuhuchunping is glazed all over, interior and exterior, in a luscious and rich deep cobalt blue glaze with attractive hare's fur streaking throughout. The vase is further decorated with a bold design of a single writhing dragon flying amongst the clouds, hand painted in silver and gold gilt (the gilding heavily rubbed, but sill present). The dragon's sinuous body wrapped fully around the vase, almost as if chasing his own tail. Billowing clouds surround him. The flaming pearl of wisdom just out of reach. The underside features a simple transparent white glaze. Unmarked.
