About the Item

Elegant in its simplicity, this late 19th-century Chinese candle stand is decorated only by an allover pale glaze with fine crazing and pools of glassy, celadon-blue color. The ceramic candle stick has a classic silhouette, shaped with a narrow stem, flared base and two dishes to catch dripping wax. Before the widespread use of electric lamps in the mid-20th century, oil lamps and candle stands were used throughout the home as practical lighting and to accompany ancestor worship.
