Description
Chinese blue and white 'Madame de Pompadour' dish, Qianlong period (1736-95)
Decorated with a central roundel of peony, chrysanthemum and pomegranate, the rim with floral sprays and seed pods flanking cartouches alternately enclosing a fish or eagle under petal coronets, with a band of diaper-swastika decoration.
Produced for the French market the Pompadour pattern, which was also produced with enamel is popularly attributed to Madame de Pompadour.
