About the Item

This petite porcelain dish from the mid-19th century is hand-painted with red green overglaze enamels in the famille verte style. The perfect wedding gift for a newly wed couple, the colorful design is layered with motifs for a long and happy marriage. Tucked within botanical scrollwork, butterflies and gourds convey a blessing for a large family with many sons. Brushed in red-orange color are large characters for double happiness (shuāngxǐ 囍), a traditional symbol for loving partnership. And finally, a ripe peach at the center offers a blessing of longevity.
