About the Item

Richly aged with wabi-sabi texture, this petite ceramic sculpture is a 19th-century Chinese candle stand molded in the shape of a mythical fu lion. Also known as a shizi or fu dog, the mythical lion offers protection from misfortune and is a benevolent guardian of the home. Likely used within an altar display for ancestor worship, the rustic candle stand has an elevated dish for a single candle and is finished in a dark glaze with subtle iridescence.
