About the Item

This Ming-dynasty (1368-1644) bowl is attributed to the kilns of Yunnan province, brushed with dark cobalt underglaze in a pattern of loops and spirals reminiscent of ancient bronze wares. Dated to the 15th/16th century, the small footed bowl was once used daily for food and drink, shaped with thin walls and a deep interior the perfect size for a serving of rice. The bowl is finished with a translucent glaze of ashen tone, worn by time for a soft texture and faded imperfections. In the spirit of wabi-sabi, high kiln temperatures led to movement of the glaze, resulting in a subtle drip effect to the inner rim and sides. Minor losses throughout.
