About the Item
With subtle asymmetry and a dramatic, crawled glaze, this Ming-dynasty (1368-1644) bowl from Yunnan province demonstrates the wabi-sabi beauty of imperfections. The small bowl has a delicate, tapered form, finely potted with thin walls and a deep interior for an inherent sense of lightness.
Natural shrinkage during firing has resulted in irregular movement of the glaze, imparting a wrinkled texture and revealing the clay body beneath. Marked with faint traces of cobalt underglaze paintings, the bowl's pale celadon glaze has eroded with time for a matte sheen and a soft finish that calls to be touched.
