About the Item

Humble yet refined, this Chinese porcelain plate from the early 19th century is cloaked in a pale crème glaze and decorated only by an allover crackle. The network of fine lines is beautiful in its imperfection, meandering across the surface with chaotic movement and accentuated by a dark, antique patina. A single star is etched into the glaze with pin pricks, a detail that once identified the plate's owner and today hints at its long, storied history. Restored chip to foot.
